My Closet Cleanout

My Closet Cleanout

I don’t know about you but my closet is bursting at the seams.  I have some really great stuff hidden away in there but as I’m sure you can relate, I find myself falling back on the same few “go to pieces” while last year’s “go-to pieces” become forgotten.

I have a bad habit of buying multiples.  Do you do that?  I find a shirt or a pair of cute cargo pants that I love and I buy it in multiple colors.  This is probably not entirely a bad thing if I am buying something classic, but probably not the best bang for my buck if I lose interest after a few months.

So heading into summer I developed a new strategy: no new clothes until I weeded out at least half of my closet AND identified the holes in my wardrobe.
I made 4 piles :
1: Keep
2: Alter or repair
3. Find coordinating piece to make a new outfit
4. Donate
As a result I have rediscovered some great things and moved on from all of the “almosts” or “just didn’t work” pieces that were taking up so much space in my closet and draws. I also identified the areas I need to focus on. I realized I have plenty of basic tees but need more casual knits. I also want to pick up a few on trend pieces such as a cropped top to go with high waisted jeans but I plan to spend a bit more on a couple of classic jewelry pieces that I plan to incorporate with pieces I already have.
